Hariyama - What a Beast Empty Hariyama - What a Beast

Everyone compares Hariyama to the OU's resident juggernaut Conkeldurr, and I guess I understand why. Both of them play the role of a Bulky Guts Abusing Fighting-type.I will admit that Conkeldurr plays the Guts-Abuse role better, thanks to priority STAB in Mach Punch, and access to Drain Punch. However, this is no Guts set. Many people forget that Hariyama has a second ability: Thick Fat. With this ability,Hariyama functions very well as a wall, having gained a resistence to Fire- and Ice-type moves, both of which are very common attacking types.

    Hariyama - What a Beast 297

    • Hariyama @ Leftovers
    • Ability:Thick Fat
    • Careful Nature (+Special Defense,-Special Attack)
    • EV's:96 HP/252 Defense/160 Special Defense
    • Force Palm
    • Whirlwind
    • Payback
    • Stone Edge

For lack of a better name for this set,Hariyama is a "Niche Wall",since I use it to take on specific threats.Tyranitar does next to nothing even when Banded, thanks to Hariyama's resistences to Rock and Dark, while Hariyama smacks it back with a Force Palm (Which also provides that handy paralysis chance on opponents switching in).Hariyama also resists Bug and Fire (Thanks to Thick Fat),causing even the mighty Volcarona to bow to Hariyama's whim.Gengar and unboosted Latios fail to OHKO with their attacks (bar Psyshock),while Payback does massive damage in return.Stone Edge handles Flying-types,Ninetales, and the aforementioned Volcarona.Whirlwind is a nice surprise move, allowing me to phaze out Subsitute users or set-uppers.

Many Volcas run Hurricane or Psychic, so watch out. But, seems like a legit strategy. Could this set live a Specs Modest Latios Draco Meteor? Timid Specs?

I've almost never run into Volcarona with Psychic, and most Rain teams I face lack it completely, removing Hurricane's threat.

As for Latios...any Latios that isn't scarfed is no threat to me.And any Latios that is can't one-shot Hariyama without Psychock or Psychic in my experience.
